Annual MLK Potluck Dinner and Food Drive Next Saturday

"I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for the minds and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits." - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is with an eye toward "One Plainfield" that Amelia and I once again open our home to the entire Plainfield community so that we may come together to commemorate and celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The 6th Annual MLK Potluck Dinner and Food Drive will take place at 535 West 8th Street this coming Saturday, January 18, 2014. Bring a dish to share for the potluck, and meet and greet your friends and neighbors. The party begins at 7:00 pm.

This year's sponsorship for the gathering will come from the Adrian Mapp Civic Association. The 2014 King Holiday Weekend also provides us with an opportunity to observe this important holiday with friends, family and neighbors, while at the same time making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate among us.

We encourage you to drop off your donations of canned goods and other non-perishable food items on our front porch (535 West Eighth Street) any day, beginning today, for the entire week leading up to the day of the event. Those of you attending the party can bring your donations with you. We look forward to welcoming you and to having a good time with all as we collectively do for others as we would have them do for us.

This year’s donations will be given to the Shiloh Baptist Church Food Pantry on West 4th Street.

Mayor Adrian Mapp
